Deirdre McCarthy qualified as a solicitor in 1999 having studied at Trinity College, Dublin (LLB) and the Law Society of Ireland.
Deirdre is a Senior Associate on the Healthcare Team and focuses on professional negligence and in particular the defence of healthcare professionals, doctors, and hospitals in medical negligence cases and Dental Council Inquiries. In high value medical claims, Deirdre has gained expertise in advising on complex issues relating to causation, liability and investigating and valuing quantum especially life expectancy and loss of dependency in fatal injury claims.
She has a particular interest in the area of informed consent. Deirdre was the lead solicitor in the successful defence of a four week medical negligence trial in the High Court which focused on the area of informed consent. She recently lectured on this subject and other topical issues to healthcare clinicians at a National Symposium in relation to best practice for the treatment of Venous Thromboembolism (VTE). She has also lectured to clients on data protection obligations.
Deirdre brings practical commercial acumen to the table in particular from her experience of working in the Commercial Department on commercial litigation cases. She has experience defending product and public liability cases, Commercial Court cases and EU/Competition litigation. She delivers a practical, commercially aware, solution driven service.
