Professional Competence


The Medical Council is now conducting a pilot study on Multi-Source Feedback (MSF) among hospital based consultants in Ireland. The aim of the study is to determine the feasibility of MSF as one of the core components of Professional Competence in advance of establishing the Professional Competence Schemes under the Medical Practitioners Act 2007.

The Medical Council are seeking 300 volunteers for this study and they will be credited with 10 CME points. The study will be launched at the end of this month. A pilot study was carried out in 2007 involving general practitioners. The consultants study will involve:-

• Completing a short online self-assessment questionnaire
• Nominating assessors/appraisers to complete a short online assessment of the volunteer consultant (from medical and non-medical colleagues)
• Distributing paper-based questionnaires to patients for completion
